Although the UK has to list whether a food is genetically modified, there are six food types that are best avoided, as they are prone to genetic modification. Wheat is one food group that is difficult to avoid, as it is found in bread, pastries, baked goods, sauce, waffles and even gravy. Better flour types to choose include spelt, chickpea or kamut. Corn is another genetically modified food source that is listed as a sugar-substitute in many foods, with some common names including fructose, dextrose, corn syrup and glucose.
